Ok, so for someone reading this journal for the first time.... it must seem rather strange. My past entries were all about Egypt... and then my return to the United States, upon which I stopped writing due to classes, work etc. It's strange but the theme of my life is that I really don't know where I'm supposed to be or what I'm supposed to be doing... so I choose things that I feel will increase my life experiences, and will bring me closer to my purpose in life. I basically go where life takes me.

I wasn't pretty sure what I was going to end up doing for this summer. The number one choice was an Internship in DC... the number two choice volunteering/ interning somewhere in Central or South America to become fluent in Spanish. The internship thingn in DC didn't work out... as some of you will know... I always do stuff last minute... and well internships tend to have deadline dates... so I missed a bunch of them... and then actually ended up not applying to any. I know it sounds bad... but I actually do believe in fate... and stuff always works out in the end... so apparently it just wasn't the right time for me to be doing the internship... oh else, there was something else that was more important to be doing at this time.

It was so tough to choose a country... I started thinking about Peru, and I talked to my friends Daniela and Jose about it... who are both Peruvians. Finally, however, due to financial constraints and the lack of a summer scholarship... I ended up choosing Mexico. Now, my school approves two programs in Mexico... Puebla (where Stefan was going) and Monterrey. Initially, I wanted to go to Puebla. However, it would be done with a professor from LaFayette and a bunch of all American kids, where the professor from Lafayette taught the Spanish courses.

I tend to like to stay away from faculty led programs... besides it costed $5000. I chose Monterrey and applied. A month and a half later Tec de Monterrey still hadn't received my application. I remember thinking... wow, I lost $200 in deposits (cheques sent in the envelope) and I probably won't even end up going there. Worse, as I work in the study abroad office, Kathy the study abroad advisor kept calling and they said they thought my application was lost. They also were not replying to my emails and I needed a VISA since I was Trinidadian.

Finally, right as I was leaving school... about May 17th.. I got a letter from Jose Sandobal saying that he had received my application and I was accepted. I needed to be there for the 24th. Within that 8 days, I flew to South Carolina... we went to North Carolina to get my Mexican VISA and my mom bought me a return ticket from Miami international airport. That's how I ended up going to Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico, for the summer... just in case anyone was wondering... what I would learn from the Mexican experience... well we'd have to wait and see.
